Tarangire National Park is a beautiful and diverse wilderness area located in Tanzania, Africa.
Tarangire National Park is home to a wide range of animals, large and small. Although some animals migrate with the seasons, the park is home to many native animals. The most common animals are elephant, giraffe, impala, warthog, zebra, gnu, pygmy mongoose and ostrich. However, there are also lions, leopards and, rarely, wild dogs. In addition, the park is home to 550 bird species, with the greater kudu, lesser kudu and oryx antelope also roaming the area.
The baobab-covered Tarangire National Park is one of the most scenic. Rising above the savannah, this ancient tree plays an important role in the ecosystem as a habitat for bees, birds and bats. They also provide nutritious fruits and indirect water for elephants and other animals, especially during the dry season.
There is a small-scale migration between June and September, when thousands of gnus and zebras move through the park in search of better grazing. Elephants and other animals follow, congregating along the Tarangire River, the park’s only permanent water source. It is estimated that as many as 2 000 elephants are present in the park at this time of year, some of which also come from Amboseli National Park in Kenya.
Lions inhabit the riverbanks and leopards are sometimes seen amongst the baobab trees. Cheetahs also live here, but usually hide from unprotected prey.
African wild dogs have been observed in the southern part of the park, but as the numbers of these talented hunters are dwindling, they are a real treat to see.
However, it is not only mammals that can be observed in Tarangire National Park, but also 550 bird species.
The most common bird species include the pheasant, red-headed gull, southern pheasant, eurya gull, ostrich, many species of birds of prey and several species of waterbirds.
The Tarangire River flows all year round and is an important lifeline for many residents, especially during the dry season. The river flows into Lake Brunge in the north-west.
The southern part of the park is occupied by wetlands, which are impassable during the wet season but dry up completely during the dry season. The vegetation in the park is very diverse, with open grasslands, savannah, baobab trees, dense acacia bushes, palm trees and a wetland area in the south with tall elephant grass. Walking safaris can be enjoyed in the southern part of the park.

Francesca F2024-03-29Unbelievable! This experience was unique and amazing. These guides are young, strong and prepared. Without them we could never reach Kili roof! We took the 6-days tour. First days are good for acclimatization, drinking enough is very important. Last night is tough, last 500 meters to the top are a challenge but an unforgettable experience for the rest of our lifes. Food was very good and equipment was perfect! Do not miss this experience and these guides!Luisa C2024-03-28An unforgettable hike and one of the most beautiful experiences of my life! I will never forget this experience! It was my first multi-day hike, but I felt very well looked after from the start. The guides are very experienced and looked after us really well. I thought the Machame route was great and we were relatively lucky with the weather. But even when it rained, we were always in a good mood and had nice conversations. The food was extremely delicious and prepared with lots of love. The chef and all the porters did an incredibly great job. We had everything we needed and were very satisfied! We shared the joy when we reached the top of the summit, one of the best days of my life! Afterwards I was very tired and had difficulty walking down because of the snow. But the guides helped me and I was so relieved when I finally got back down. Without them I would have panicked and still be up there! They were really great and know exactly what they are doing! Highly recommended and I would book a tour with them again and again! :)Denis C2024-03-266Days Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Climbing It was amazing 6 days in Marangu Route on Kilimanjaro with Deogratius Minja the tour guide.
